Bob Reading

The Rita Marley Foundation has launched its inaugural Essay Competition on Wednesday, April 30, 2014.

The Theme: Bob Marley His Music & Message

This topic chosen by the Rita Marley Foundation provides ample room for exploration and expression by competition participants.

They have been advised to consider the following important points for inclusion in their essays:

  1. How would you describe the impact of Bob Marley’s music on the youth?
  2. What is Bob Marley’s most important message to the youth, Jamaica and the world?
  3. How does Bob Marley’s life and his message encourage you to believe that you could achieve your future goals?
  4. How does Bob Marley’s music encourage peace in communities?
  5. How is Bob Marley legendary?
  6. Discuss your opinion of whether music can bring peace, love and unity.

This year, the Foundation has decided to open the competition to students of the following high schools in Jamaica:

  • Haile Selassie Junior High School
  • Bob Marley Primary & Junior High School
  • Marcus Garvey High School
  • Papine High School.

Each school has assigned a teacher to select its top three essays.

Those will be submitted to the Rita Marley Foundation no later than June 1, 2014.

The Foundation will designate a panel of judges responsible for assessing the essays. The judges will choose the best three entries overall.

The Winners

The winning schools will receive trophies (gold for the first, silver for the second and bronze for the third respectively).

The individual authors will receive medals, certificates and other prizes.

The 1st place essay would also be published on the Rita Marley Foundation website, social media sites, Harambe newsletter and newspapers.

Winners will be announced and prizes issued on July 2, 2014. Stay tuned…
